Surgery Fees
Queensland Retina Specialists is a private clinic, and our fees are based on the Australian Medical Association (AMA) rate. Our fees reflect the cost of precision ophthalmic equipment, as well as our experienced and specialised ophthalmic team. It is for this reason that we cannot offer bulk billing.
Out-Of-Pocket Costs
At Queensland Retina Specialists, we tailor your treatment and surgical plan to suit your individual condition. For this reason, along with the fact that each health fund provides different levels of hospital cover and rebates, your out-of-pocket expense will be determined at your consultation.
If surgery is required, our staff will provide an estimate of fees and out-of-pocket costs, as well as payment procedures specific for your planned procedure. We will advise you to check with your health fund to ensure your level of cover includes eye surgery
Prepayment
It is a requirement of this practice that surgery is prepaid 24 hours prior to your procedure. We will contact you 1-3 business days prior to organise this payment. An itemised receipt will be provided after your surgery is completed for you to claim from your health fund and Medicare, along with the appropriate claim forms.

Estimates and Fees
Fees are required to be settled in full on the day. Our practice accepts Cash, EFTPOS, credit card and bank cheques (personal cheques are not accepted). Please contact our friendly reception staff on 07 3555 5960 to ask for an estimate for fees payable on the day of your consultation.
Please be aware that the estimate is only a guide. Due to the nature of certain urgent or complex conditions, you may require on-the-day treatment or further testing, which may incur an additional fee. This will be explained to you prior to commencement of proposed additional investigations or treatments.
Rebates
All consultations and treatments that take place under a valid referral and attract a Medicare item number are eligible for Medicare rebate. Your Medicare claim can be submitted electronically on the day of your payment by our helpful reception team.
Note: Please be aware that procedures performed outside of the hospital are not covered by your private health fund.
